I have the honour to acknowledge receipt

of your confidential despatch of the 16th September,

1938 regarding certain adjustments in the cadre of

Chinese Medical Officers and, with reference to the

second paragraph, to inform you that officers

promoted to the superior scales of salary are shown

in the draft estimates for 1939 as Chinese Medical

Officers, Senior Grade.

2. Unless you instruct to the contrary I should

prefer to retain this title in preference to Grade I

or Grade A.
